Adjunct Professors from DC assist STRS
“That we can rely on faculty experts outside of STRS to teach for us is one of the great advantages of CUA’s location in the nation’s capitol,” said Msgr. Kevin Irwin, speaking about three professors who are teaching graduate courses this semester.
In addition to several professors who live in the DC area and regularly assist in teaching courses in STRS (e.g. Chor Bishop Seeley Beggiani, and the Revs. Gerard Sloyan, Berard Marthaler) this semester STRS welcomed Rev. Dr. Thomas Weinandy to lead a doctoral seminar entitled “Aquinas on Doctrine,” Rev. Dr. James Greenfield to lead the capstone seminar for graduating M. Div. students, and Rev. Dr. Kevin Kennedy to teach a doctoral seminar on “Pastoral Planning.”

Fr. Weinandy is presently the Executive Secretary for the USCCB Committee on Doctrine. He came to that position having at Oxford University where he was Warden of Greyfriars and tutor and lecturer in History and Doctrine in the Faculty of Theology from 1991-2005. He was Chairman of the Faculty of Theology from 1997 to 1999. He received a Doctorate in Historical Theology at King’s College, University of London. His major fields of specialty are History of Christology, especially Patristic, Medieval and Contemporary, History of Trinitarian Theology, History of Soteriology, and Philosophical Notions of God.
Fr. Greenfield has just been elected Provincial of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. Having served them as Assistant Provincial charged with disseminating Salesian spirituality, he also served as Superior of their formation house in DC and as Vocation Director. Therefore he beings a wealth of pastoral experience to leading the newly established capstone seminar for the M.Div degree concerned with integrating theology and pastoral practice.
Fr. Kennedy is the pastor of St. Paul’s Parish, Damascus, Md. His former ministerial assignments in the Washington archdiocese included parish work and administration in the archdiocesan Pastoral Center. His background before seminary (STB at CUA) included earning a Masters degree at the Krannert School at Purdue University with a double major in finance and strategic management.
“These particular appointments indicate CUA’s relationship to the United States Conference of Bishops as well as the day to day pastoral life in and around the archdiocese of Washington,” said Dean Irwin. “It is my hope that these professors and others like them from the DC area can continue to collaborate with our distinguished resident faculty,” he said.
